What's New
The Real Cost of Washington's Shutdown

"Here in Rhode Island, we can't control what happens in Congress, but we can do what Washington won't. We can help families. The real cost of this shutdown isn't measured in lost paychecks. It's in the stress at the dinner table, the anxiety at home, and the disappointment from people who just want government to work for the people, not political points. If Washington won't lead, Rhode Island should."

Taking on Utility Companies Nationwide

When I took on the utility companies in Rhode Island by introducing a cap on their profits, I knew it was the right thing for Rhode Islanders—and now, it's catching on nationwide. We started something big here in RI. States across the country are following our lead and demanding that utilities put people over profits. Proud to see this movement grow and even more proud to have helped spark it.

Protecting Those Who Step Up When Disaster Hits

Want to know more about the two bills I sponsored that unanimously passed the House? These bills protect the folks who show up when disaster hits—and they matter more than ever.

Capping Utility Profits

Rhode Islanders deserve better than corporate double-talk. While RI Energy insists that cutting profit margins will "hurt investment," the reality is that our communities are paying the price for bloated executive bonuses and misplaced priorities. Our hard-working neighbors deserve a utility that reinvests in local infrastructure and cuts energy bills—not one that buries profit at the expense of our families.

My bill would cap electric and gas utilities' profits. Rhode Islanders are being pushed to the breaking point by sky-high utility rates. We faced a 47% electric rate hike in October 2022. With electricity costing an average of 27.57 cents per kilowatt-hour—61% higher than the national average—many families are paying over $130 a month just to keep the lights on. Meanwhile, the CEO of RI Energy received a 31% raise that year, taking home $11.97 million.
