What's New
Rep. Megan Cotter introduces bill to boost tax break for seniors
Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa and Rep. Megan Cotter are sponsoring a bill to provide relief to some of the state’s most vulnerable households by raising the eligibility limit and the maximum credit for the “circuit breaker” tax credit, which benefits low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Sen. Gu, Rep. Cotter introduce bills to cap electric & gas utilities’ profits
Representative Cotter (D-Dist. 39, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton), “While billion-dollar utility companies post record profits, families and seniors in our community are sitting at their kitchen tables trying to figure out how to pay their electric bills. Our profit cap bills are about protecting working families who are choosing between heat and groceries and making sure seniors on fixed incomes don’t have to live in the cold.
Taking on Utility Companies Nationwide

When I took on the utility companies in Rhode Island by introducing a cap on their profits, I knew it was the right thing for Rhode Islanders—and now, it's catching on nationwide. We started something big here in RI. States across the country are following our lead and demanding that utilities put people over profits. Proud to see this movement grow and even more proud to have helped spark it.

Cotter and DiPalma again push to make ‘green bond’ greener

Just as they did before the 2024 state election, Sen. Louis P. DiPalma and Rep. Megan L. Cotter have introduced legislation to add land preservation programs to the “green bond” proposed for November’s ballot.
Legislation they have introduced would add funding to the proposed Green Bond for state and local programs for conservation of open space and farmland, as well as for recreational spaces and programs.
“Rhode Islanders value the protection of open space, which is evident by the wide approval our Green Bonds usually get each election. Conservation is usually a big part of our Green Bonds, and it’s what Rhode Islanders expect to get when they vote to support them,” said Representative Cotter.
